Today, I want to dedicate our first community spotlight to someone who profoundly impacted my own healing journey: my dear friend Colin (Mr. Bear).While I was navigating the difficult path of recovering from a stroke, I turned to gaming as a therapeutic tool to rebuild my spatial awareness, coordination, and problem-solving skills. It was during this vulnerable time of relearning and rehabilitation that I met Colin. He didn't just help me navigate the mechanics of a game; he offered immense patience, kindness, and a genuine sense of camaraderie when I needed it most. He became a vital part of my cognitive and emotional recovery. Now, Colin is facing a daunting journey of his own. He was recently diagnosed with cancer, and the road ahead involves a difficult battle that requires frequent travel for specialized treatment. As his brother Cory beautifully shared, Colin is one of the most humble, positive, and genuine people you could ever meet. He has always been the kind of person to offer his support without hesitation. As a therapist, I frequently witness the transformative power of showing up for one another. It is deeply important to me to show up for Colin the way he so readily showed up for me.
